The warm roof design was adopted over the previous inverted roof design in order to take advantage of the thermal properties of the new insulation. The use of the room below the terrace was changed meaning there was no way to include a layer of insulation to the underside of the soffit.
Because of the warm roof design, we were able to incorporate the KÖSTER Vapour Barrier FR bonded directly to the screed to falls. This fully adhered vapour barrier also serves as a temporary watertight layer, this allowed us to keep the rooms below waterproof through the various stages of the build - even though waterproofing had been removed.
We selected our KÖSTER 2mm Fleecebacked membrane due to it’s integrated fleece backing. This provided an extra layer of protection for when the pedestal supports and decking were fitted on-top. In the case of any dirts, small stones, or irregular finishes under the membrane - the fleece provides a cushioned layer, preventing the membrane from getting damaged.
